SPE Offshore Europe 2019 key themes: operate, innovate, and attract.
A major paradigm shift is happening.
With SPE Offshore Europe right around the corner – we look to their focus to see what industry representatives are keen to direct their attention to right now. As the industry & economic world environment continues to make massive shifts, the question that seems to be on everyone’s lips is – how can we continue to operate, truly innovate, and attract the best people to bring this industry forward?
Since 2017’s last SPE Offshore, top market players have stated their focus on address how to move forward with the changing role of the energy industry in providing affordable, reliable and clean energy.
This major paradigm shift – has left an opening for smaller companies who are capable of creating solutions with these concepts in mind before they go to market. The after thought of the world in which we live – is something that needs to change.
Looking to the industry pros – here we would like to highlight an excerpt from this year’s Show Preview article: Using integrated technologies in project development - an interview with Colette Cohen, CEO, Oil and Gas Technology Center and Jim Lenton, President, Upstream Integrated Solutions, Worley. Jim concludes the article with a very critical comment - tenders are being filled with what people feel they know - in the words of Socrates “All I know is that I know nothing.” - will industry players continue to choose the “safe” route or will it eventually drive them out of business?
WO: How far can digitalization play a role in integrating technologies?
JL: We’ve covered it already. It’s real, its tangible, and real results are being delivered for those companies who are getting on the bus. Yet, I still find that some of the operations are coming out with nothing more than a schedule for rates—there’s so much out there that can be done. It’s something I want to talk about at OE19.
CC: The conversation we have had with operators recently is around their lack of take-up on technology and new ideas. Where they fail to take it up, is where they allow their procurement or legal to have too much control. Some of the tendering and requests coming out from companies are only being influenced by what they’ve done before, what they feel is safe and what is simpler to evaluate, because it’s what they know. That needs to change.

We are really looking forward to listening in on this year’s talks – and sharing our own view on these issues. We’ll be onsite showcasing our efforts towards the subsea photogrammetry market with our GIPSEA-PR solution – and sharing a space with our new strategic partners – which will be announced closer to the show.
